About me
Andreea Horhocea
Hi there.
I am Andreea. Lovely to meet you.
I am a psychodynamic psychotherapist. I graduated a Masters in Psychodynamic Psychotherapy and a BA in Criminology and Social Psychology rewarded by University of Essex. I have been working with children, young people and adults for the last 6 years in many settings. I have experience within primary and secondary schools, charity sector as well as the NHS.
I understand the importance of finding the right therapist for you and how the process sometimes can be exhausting and frustrating. Whether it’s your first time looking for therapy or you have tried different places so far, I hope to make your journey as smooth as possible.
At the moment, I am also working with YMCA trinity supporting young people. I have experience delivering groups to young people as well as parents/carers. I am a registered member of British Association of Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP) and I adhere by their framework.
I didn’t become a therapist because I had it all figured out, actually very far from it. BUT I became one because I knew what it feels like to be stuck inside your own head, unable to express all the things that you’re thinking or feeling, often being in a loop of overthinking unable to see a way out and often criticising the smallest actions or reactions. I also remember that growing up I was made to believe that being vulnerable meant weakness and that no matter the circumstances I had to do it all, alone and failure was not an option. As you probably have guessed by now I am not a follower of these beliefs anymore but I am sure I am not the only person who had these experiences and this mindset. Contrary to popular belief, therapy is not just for times of crisis but a valuable resource regardless of the stage of life.
Struggling with an overactive mind and a tough inner critic makes it near enough impossible to celebrate the wins, to see the progress and to accept that sometimes doing your best means getting out of bed, brushing your teeth and maybe replying to a few texts from friends or family. Living inside our heads can be extremely challenging because no one can see the inner dialogue, the constant battle between the hope and the critic who tries to rip away every ounce of confidence little by little, who sometimes is so convincing that your problems don’t really matter and someone, somewhere has it a lot worse than you so why don’t you just crack on? More often than not, we would treat literally anyone else with more kindness and understanding but when it comes to ourselves the story is quite different and the narrative changes.
I would love to be a part of your journey where you learn ‘to mute your inner critic’, embrace change and allow yourself to explore and grow in all the different areas that you set your mind to.
Please don’t hesitate to get in touch if you have any questions.
I started my practice to offer you a space where you can comfortably and confidently explore your story. I believe that every story has a unique twist and I would love to hear yours.
